The latest Lexington article from The Economist notes that for as much as Washington’s Democrats and Republicans cannot see eye to eye, they are in lockstep when it comes to agreeing that the last thing they want the U.S. to do is begin to resemble Europe, especially on the financial front. And indeed, such a thing seems to be a highly unlikely thing, regardless of who holds power, thanks to a national consensus to stay competitive and to keep and eye on public spending. But where America is hewing close to Europe is how divided it is internally.
