Starbucks continues to prioritize mobile payments,announcing its investment in Square, a mobile payments start-upthat will allow Starbucks customers to pay using its smartphoneapp. The coffee giant will invest $25 million in the tech start-upand will use its technology in 7,000 of its stores nationwide.

Mobile payment is already available in about 14,000 Starbucksstores. Starbucks already has its own mobile payment app, but hopesto complement its existing payment systems. The new system willallow users of the Square smartphone app to pay using their phoneor by just giving their name to the employee taking theirorder.
