The board of the Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA) has revamped LISA operations in a way that may reflect an increased interest in federal legislation and regulation.

The board has hired Association Management Strategies Inc. to run LISA, and moved LISA’s headquarters to Washington, from Orlando, Florida.

The board has also named Bryan Nicholson, association management veteran, to be the group’s new executive director.

Nicholson succeeds Darwin Bayston, who has been the group’s executive director since 2010. Nicholson has been the executive director of the GridWise Alliance, a group of organizations with an interest in America’s electricity distribution grid, according to the Association Management Strategies website.

Nicholson has also been executive director of the Sorptive Minerals Institute, a trade association for producers and marketers of products made of absorben clay minerals.

He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in international affairs from the New School.

Bayston, who succeeded Doug Head, had been director of consulting at a Georgia-based longevity forecasting firm.

Christopher Conway, the chairman of the LISA board, said in an email about the changes that Bayston is still a LISA consultant, and that Bayston is the first individual named to be an honorary LISA member for life.

“His contributions over the past nearly eight years and his ongoing advocacy for the industry and the benefits it affords to consumers are to be commended in the highest possible terms and LISA is exceedingly grateful for his service,” Conway said.

LISA is now planning a fall life settlement conference, which is set to start Oct. 13 in Nashville, Tennessee.

LISA encourages anyone involved in advising older life insurance policyholders, including life insurance agents, to join the association and attend its conferences, Conway said.
