New Hire Roundup: Sosa Leaves PIMCO to Lead New DoubleLine Group

This week in personnel announcements and new hires, fi360 announced three executive appointments, the American College welcomed five new members to its board of trustees, Brett Scola joined Pitcairn, and Danielle Fischer went to the Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank.

Also, Mariner Wealth Advisors acquired a majority interest in Housen Financial Group, MarginXL Capital Partners announced its launch, Linda Riefberg joined Cozen O’Connor, and Guardian welcomed Marc Costantini.

Former EVP at PIMCO to Join DoubleLine

Ignacio Sosa, previously executive vice president for global bond product management at PIMCO, will join DoubleLine Capital LP on May 12 as director of the firm’s newly formed Product Solutions Group.

Sosa, who will report to DoubleLine CEO Jeffrey Gundlach, will lead the Product Solutions Group in three key areas: developing new investment products, engaging in discussions with clients and their advisors on existing DoubleLine offerings, and building new business, particularly outside the United States.

“I’m delighted to welcome Ignacio Sosa aboard,” said Gundlach, in a statement. “Throughout his career, Ignacio has conceived new asset management businesses as well as specific products, and managed them to success. His talents, I’m sure, will strengthen DoubleLine’s efforts to build our business and extend new, innovative product offerings to our valued clients and their advisors.”

Sosa has more than 30 years of experience in asset management. From October 2011 to April 2014, he worked at Newport Beach-Calif., headquartered PIMCO. He joined PIMCO as EVP/lead emerging markets product manager, later becoming EVP for global bond product management.

fi360 Promotes DiMaggio, Hires CFO and Chief Revenue Officer

fi360 promoted Robert DiMaggio to chief product officer and hired William Mueller as chief financial officer and Matthew Wolniewicz as chief revenue officer.

DiMaggio joined fi360 in May 2013 as vice president of integration and data analytics. In his new role, he is responsible for strategy and oversight of all fi360 products.

DiMaggio holds an MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Mueller is responsible for the firm’s financial and accounting operations, as well as analyzing financial metrics and directing corporate strategy. He joins fi360 after spending more than 10 years at Renda Broadcasting Corp., where he was vice president and CFO.

Wolniewicz will be responsible for building and maintaining a high-performance sales organization in order to further fi360’s growth and meet its business objectives.

He was most recently head of sales, global advisor and wealth management solutions at Morningstar, where he served as the executive business development leader of Morningstar’s largest segment, driving revenue and overseeing 84 team members.

American College Gets Five New Trustees

The American College has added five new members to its board of trustees.

The new members are Ron Carson, founder and CEO, Carson Wealth Management Group, Omaha, Neb.; Michael Doughty, president and general manager, John Hancock Insurance, Boston; Salene Hitchcock-Gear, president and CEO, Ameritas Investment Corp., Bethesda, Md.; Anne Long, president, NFP Life, Austin, Texas; and Mary Weiss, Deaver professor of risk, insurance and health care management, Fox School of Business, Temple University, Philadelphia.

Pitcairn Welcomes Scola

Pitcairn has announced that Brett Scola has joined the firm’s relationship management team as director of family wealth strategy. He reports directly to Karen Wawrzaszek, managing director and head of the Washington, D.C., office, where he is based.

Scola joins from GenSpring Family Offices, where he was a family wealth advisor to ultrahigh-net-worth families. He has more than 20 years of experience in the professional and financial services field, previously serving as a senior wealth planner at PNC Wealth Management, a relationship manager at Wachovia Wealth Management, and a senior tax manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank Welcomes Fischer

U.S. Bank Wealth Management has announced that Danielle Fischer has been named trust relationship manager for the Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank in Portland. There she will provide trust and estate administration for individuals, families, corporations and nonprofit organizations.

Fischer has more than 17 years of financial services experience working in trust administration and wealth management for high-net-worth individuals. Prior to joining, she served as vice president and trust administrator with Neuberger Berman Trust Co. NA in New York and as an associate attorney with Kevin Matz & Associates PLLC in White Plains, N.Y.

Mariner Wealth Advisors Acquires Majority Interest in Housen Financial Group

Mariner Wealth Advisors has announced that it has acquired a majority interest in Manasquan, N.J.-based Housen Financial Group.

Housen has a professional staff of 13 and provides financial advice in areas that include investments, retirement, education, taxes, estate planning, insurance and risk management and business strategy/succession planning.

MarginXL Capital Partners Launches

Operational private equity firm MarginXL Capital Partners has announced its launch. The firm, founded by George Stelling and Robert Charles, seeks to address a gap in middle-market operational private equity investing by harnessing and exploiting data and generating insights from that data to improve profits and investment returns. Stelling and Charles worked closely together at Bain & Co. in Dallas.

Stelling co-founded and was COO and managing director at Prophet Equity LP, a private equity buyout fund focused on making control equity investments in underperforming companies in the lower middle market.

Charles has operating and financial experience that includes JP Morgan Chase Capital Markets Group, Ford Motor Co. and Ford Credit.

Riefberg Joins Cozen O’Connor

Cozen O’Connor has brought in Linda Riefberg as a member. She represents clients in securities enforcement investigations, engages in broker-dealer counseling and handles other regulatory matters before the Securities and Exchange Commission, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and state securities regulators. She also handles securities-related litigation and arbitration.

Riefberg is a former chief counsel in the department of enforcement of FINRA and special counsel with Fried Frank. She was also at the New York Stock Exchange, where she coordinated the regulatory investigation that led to the Global Research Analyst Settlement, before the merger of the enforcement arms of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and NYSE.

Costantini Named Guardian CFO

The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America has announced that Marc Costantini has joined the firm as chief financial officer. He succeeds Robert Broatch, who is retiring after serving in that position for the past 12 years, and will report to Deanna Mulligan, president and CEO.

Costantini brings more than 25 years of experience in both financial and business management. He most recently was executive vice president of corporate development and strategy at Manulife Financial Corp. and was a member of Manulife’s management committee. He was previously CFO of John Hancock and president of John Hancock Annuities.
