A number of large employers have banded together to help uninsured Americans obtain affordable health care coverage.[@@]
Under the banner of the HR Policy Association, Washington, the group has established a new program, National Health Access, to provide an estimated 1.25 million uninsured workers and their dependents a chance to obtain reasonably priced health care insurance.
The employers include Avon Products Inc., IBM, Sears, General Electric, EMC Corp. and Federal-Mogul.
NHA will offer 6 health care choices over the next several months to workers whose employers do not pay for health coverage. The offerings will include discount programs and a variety of health insurance options, including major medical coverage. Covered services may also include immunizations, checkups, wellness, inpatient-outpatient care, prescription drugs, mental health care and dental care.
UnitedHealth Group, Humana and CIGNA HealthCare will provide insurance products, while Hewitt Associates will act as administrator, according to the HR Policy Association announcement.
