A big California managed care company has started selling 2 health insurance policies designed for individuals living in Texas.[@@]

PacifiCare Health Systems Inc., Cypress, Calif., is rolling out the Individual PPO preferred provider organization policy and the Self Directed Health Plan policy.

PacifiCare was once known mainly as a health maintenance organization company, but it has been shifting into the PPO market in recent years. The Texas Individual PPO plan offers many premium, deductible and benefit choices, PacifiCare says.

The Self Directed plan is a plan with a moderately high deductible that comes with a $1,000 personal health spending account. A customer who stays healthy can use the account to pay for routine care and roll any unused dollars over at the end of the year.
