NU Online News Service, July 29, 2003, 1:15 p.m. EDT – John Hancock Financial Services Inc., Boston, will be expanding use of the Minnesota Cognitive Acuity Screen, a dementia screening tool marketed by Nation’s CareLink L.L.C., Minneapolis, to underwrite long term care insurance policies.

Hancock will now use the screen to test for dementia in applicants over age 69.

Hancock has already been using the screen to identify early symptoms of dementia in long term care insurance applicants between the ages of 40 and 69.

Nation’s CareLink employs registered nurses who can administer the 15-minute screen during a face-to-face meeting or over the telephone.

Testers can use the screen to assess an LTC applicant’s judgment, short-term memory, reasoning, orientation and comprehension, Hancock says.
