NU Online News Service, Jan. 10, 11:49 a.m. – The Indiana Committee on Insurance and Financial Institutions is considering a bill that would require life insurers to accept a copy of a life insurance policy as evidence of the existence of the policy until a claim has been settled.

The bill, Senate Bill 142, would require the policyholders to submit the original policy to the life insurance company following the resolution of the claim.

The bill was introduced by Sen. Anita Bowser, D-Michigan City, Ind.

The text of the bill is on the Web at http://www.IN.gov/serv/lsa_billinfo?year=2003&session=1&request=getBill&docno=0142
