Oxford Chairman Announces Retirement

NU Online News Service, Sept. 19, 11:40 a.m. – Oxford Health Plans Inc., Trumbull, Conn., says Dr. Norman Payson, its chairman and chief executive officer, intends to retire by the end of the year.

The Oxford board has named Charles Berg to be the CEO-elect and appointed him to the Oxford board. Berg has been the company’s president and chief operating officer.

Kent Thiry, an Oxford board member and chairman DaVita Inc., Torrance, Calif., was appointed chairman-elect.

Payson became the CEO of Oxford in May 1998 and the chairman of the company in May 1999.

Before joining Oxford, Payson co-founded and led Healthsource Inc., a New Hampshire managed care company that was sold to CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, in 1997.
