NU Online News Service, Jan. 2, 11:19 a.m. – Fortis, Brussels, has completed a previously announced, $300 million acquisition of the dental benefits division of Protective Life Corp., Birmingham, Ala.
The division provides both indemnity and managed dental coverage, and it has been especially active in developing employee-paid group dental benefits program. It now has 620 employees and 29 field offices.
The division generated $334 million in revenue in 2000 from providing coverage for 2 million people, according to Fortis.
Fortis says it will put the division under the control of Fortis Benefits, a unit based in Kansas City, Mo.
