LOUISVILLE, KY-The Al J. Schneider Co. has received state approval for incentives to help with its $28-million renovation of its 596-room Executive West Hotel, and the company is also ready to turn over another hotel to the state for demolition and redevelopment for a 600-room property. The company owns the Executive West, the 1,300-room Galt House East and the Executive Inn in the local area.

The firm announced early this year that it is partnering with Atlanta-based InterContinental Hotels Group to make the Executive West into a Crowne Plaza Hotel. The renovated property, which the Schneider firm will continue to own after the conversion, should be complete by December, says a company spokesman. The firm recently received almost $400,000 in tax rebates from the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority for the renovation project. “The money will help us do this project, which will translate into more money for the state through an increase of hotel guests and conventions,” the spokesman said.

Also, Scheider is getting ready to turn over the Executive Inn, located across from the West hotel, over to the state. The company owns the older hotel, but leases the land from the state. The plan is for the Inn to be demolished, and then the state will issue an RFP for a new 600-room hotel. “The Fair Board, which owns the land, wants a new hotel to go up adjacent to the Kentucky Exposition Center, one of the top conventions sites in the country, at more than one-million-sf. We’re waiting for that RFP, we hope to be able to help the state build the new hotel.”
