BALTIMORE-The American Red Cross’s plans for a new $4.25 million building in the 157-acre Seton Business Park have taken a significant step forward now that the Baltimore Development Corp. has gotten the green light from the Board of Estimates to sell a 4.5-acre parcel to the non-profit humanitarian organization. Carrying the address of 4800 Mount Hope Dr., the parcel will become home to a 30,000-sf single-story building that will house office and training rooms for the Red Cross Central Maryland Chapter.

The new development will mark an expansion for the chapter, as it already shares space with the Blood Service Region Center in a 111,000-sf building just down the street from the new development at 4700 Mount Hope Dr. “When the Red Cross moved into the 4700 Mount Hope Dr. facility in April of 1989, the building provided much needed space for Chesapeake & Potomac Blood Services and the Central Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross,” Chapter executive director Frank Miller says. “The facility was built to headquarter all the services that the Red Cross offers our community; however, 14 years later our space constraints have increased dramatically. Since that time, community needs have necessitated our growth.” The new building is expected to reach completion in May of next year.
