64,000-SF City Museum Opens to Display DC History

WASHINGTON, DC-The Nation’s Capital gets a showcase all its own with the recent opening of the City Museum in the Carnegie Library Building. Visitors to the cultural destination have 64,000 sf of space in which to peruse the history of the District. The Clark Construction Group restored and redeveloped the historic property on behalf of the Historical Society of Washington, DC. Construction expenses for the project totaled $12 million.

Conveniently located a stone’s throw form the newly erected Washington, DC Convention Center, the building that houses the City Museum is an historic, three-story structure. Museum offerings in the century-old property include 14,000 sf of exhibit space, public space, administrative offices, storage, meeting space, an education center and a library. “Washington, DC now has a place to celebrate its history and allow people to discover all of the things that make this city unique,” Historical Society president and CEO Barbara Franco says.
