Steak Sauce Factory Sells for $2.5M

CAMBRIDGE, MD-The 168,450-sf building that is currently home to Nabisco Inc. subsidiary Kraft Foods becomes the property of another food manufacturer, Kennett Square, PA-based Mushroom Canning, in a $2.5 million deal. Grey Poupon mustards and A-1 Steak Sauce products are currently churned out at the 40-year-old plant, which occupies a 55-acre parcel on Woods Road off Route 50. Dorchester County records list the property’s current assessed value at nearly $5.8 million.

“The property is in excellent condition, the building has been very well maintained,” Mackenzie/Oncor International vice president Daniel Hudak tells GlobeSt.com. Mackenzie marketed the property on behalf of the seller. “When Nabisco acquired Kraft, there was an overlap of facilities. And Mushroom Canning was on a national search for a space because they had outgrown their facility in Pennsylvania.” Hudak adds that the building, which was previously owned by Chun King Limited Partnership, has been expanded and improved upon several times over its four-decade existence, and that a couple of other food processors had expressed serious interest in acquiring the site.
