HarleyEllis Designs Hospital's West Wing

TROY, MI-Detroit-based design and construction firm HarleyEllis is designing WilliamBeaumont Hospital’s 240,000-sf West Hospital at its campus here. The $53-million project incorporates advanced facility programming, planning and design methodologies, creating a state-of-the-art facility to meet the increasing community demand for patient care, Beaumont officials say.

The five-story structure will house maternal child health, expanded endoscopy and surgical services, inpatient care as well as support services. Backstage areas for employees, services and equipment add to the patient-oriented atmosphere. An open layout encourages communication between care providers, patient’s families and physicians, while minimizing disruption to other patients and staff, hospital officials say.

The plan is the Troy hospital’s first design-build project.

An August 2001 Topping Out Celebration commemorated the completion of the building’s superstructure. The new wing is scheduled for completion in spring 2003.
