WORCESTER, MA-City officials are considering putting the site of the Central Street Fire Station, located in the heart of downtown here, out to bid. The city would like to see a hotel developed on the site, which is near the Worcester Centrum Centre and across from the newly built Worcester Center Boulevard parking garage.

Proceeds from the sale would go to constructing training facilities for the city’s fire department. Reportedly, the city would use the commercial development exemption allowed under state law that would enable the city to go through a modified public process in selling the site and negotiating with developers.

Environmental testing and land surveys on the site have been authorized and the site could be put out to bid by early next month. The city council is to vote on the plan shortly.
