TARRYTOWN, NY-Dolce International Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Dolce officiated over a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the completion of a $15 million expansion and renovation project at the famed hotel/conference center here. The expansion and renovation effort took approximately 18 months to complete and increased the size of the historic facility to a total of 209 guest rooms.

In addition to Dolce, Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano and approximately 100 invited guests were on hand for the event. The expansion also adds a new lobby area that connects the King House and all hotel guest rooms. Dolce Tarrytown House officials note that the newly constructed guest rooms include one 1,5000 sf deluxe Presidential suite that overlooks the Hudson River and three junior suites as well.

“An expansion and renovation of this scope has been our goal at Dolce Tarrytown House since we purchased the property in July 1997,” said the company chairman and CEO. “The addition of 61 guest rooms enables us to accommodate significantly larger meetings and the new lobby area offers a greatly enhanced check-in and check-out experience by providing an enclosed route to all guest rooms, vital in inclement weather.”

AEW Capital provided the funding for the expansion/renovation project. Dolce thanked village of Tarrytown officials for their support in approving the company’s plan at the facility and also Westchester County government for its efforts to promote travel/tourism and economic development in Westchester County.

Westchester County Executive Andrew Spano noted that the county is attempting to “make Westchester a destination” for tourists and business travelers. He added that the county for the past few years has suffered with a shortage of hotel rooms to meet demand and therefore the added guest rooms are very much needed.

Architectural Design Collaborative P.C. and Dennis Noskin Architects completed the expansion and renovation project, while the Gettys Group handled all interior refurbishments. Andron Construction Group, based in Westchester County, was the general contractor.

The Dolce Tarrytown House complex includes two restored and renovated 19th century mansions–the King House and the Biddle Mansion and meeting/conference space that totals approximately 28,000 sf set on 26 acres. The renovation and expansion campaign included renovation of all guest rooms including wiring for high-speed Internet access that will be available by the end of this summer. Also, the Winter Palace Restaurant has been expanded, as has on-site parking capabilities. Traffic in and out of the property has also been enhanced with the addition of a new exit leaving the property.

Dolce International officials note that the property’s name was changed from the Tarrytown House to Dolce Tarrytown House to reflect the company’s current aggressive branding initiative. “The reason for Dolce taking this bold branding step is partially due to the recently created partnership between Dolce/AEW and Soros Real Estate Investments which is creating a $250 million war chest to acquire 10-15 properties in the next three years,” Dolce says. “Growing the portfolio to 35-40 properties globally creates a need for a strong brand identity, and therefore all of the Dolce-owned properties will include the Dolce name in the property name.
