Former Muffin Bakery Rises Again as High-Tech Business Center

TOTOWA, NJ-It once supplied the whole East Coast with Thomas’ English Muffins, but these days the building is known as the Totowa Business Center, a 226,000-sf high-tech and light industrial facility. After Best Foods decided to bake its muffins elsewhere, shutting the facility down in 1998, Atco Property and Management of New York took it over and turned it into a first-class multi-tenant venue.

Justifying Atco’s faith in the project, PricewaterhouseCoopers has just signed along-term lease for 64,000 sf (Steven Frank of CB Richard Ellis brokered the deal). Best Foods itself has taken 106,000 sf for administrative and other uses, leaving about 55,000 sf still available.

As far as the facility itself, ovens and dough-mixing machines have been replaced by fiber-optic telecom, ISDN dedicated digital lines and heavy power. Tenants are also offered a 10% discount on all electrical costs.
