$20-Million Expansion Will Triple Production

GARDEN GROVE, CA-Following a more than $20-million investment, the capacity at Corning Inc.’s manufacturing plant here will triple for two products based on its liquid-crystal technology.

Spokesman Paul Rogoski says the investment will be used to lease a new facility, but he didn’t specify where it would be. Based in Corning, N.Y., the company makes glass used in fiber-optic networks. The investment is for two products: One controls an optical signal as it travels through a network and the other switches light from one fiber to another.

The project is slated for a late 2001 completion. Corning expects to add to its existing 180-person Garden Grove workforce, according to John Knight, the company’s manager of marketing systems and integration.
