Opus Delivers Green Student Housing at Catholic U

WASHINGTON, DC-Opus East has delivered a 79-unit student housing facility at Catholic University. The seven-story, 127,000-square-foot facility–designed to meet LEED standards–will start housing students this semester. According to Marshall Burton, executive vice president of Opus East, the company is pursuing similar institutional projects in the region.

Located on John McCormack Rd., Opus Hall will house 402 students. Each suite has one double and three single bedrooms, a common living room, and bathroom. Each floor also has a common kitchen and meeting space.

The building has been designed to meet LEED standards–an increasingly frequent requirement among universities and colleges. For instance, Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids is moving forward on a $52.- million expansion of its student living, which will be designed to green standards, according to local press accounts. Sacramento State is also building to sustainable standards. In Georgia, Emory University’s Silver LEED certified Turman Hall won awards for its sustainable features.
