Two 35,000-SF Ashley HomeStores Break Ground

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL-City Furniture is expanding its existing 13-unit presence in South Florida under a franchise agreement to add Ashley Furniture HomeStores throughout the area, beginning with 35,000-sf Ashley-branded showrooms in Davie and Stuart. In Stuart, the Ashley HomeStore will join a new 65,000-sf City Furniture showroom.

The site of Ashley Furniture HomeStore in Davie is at the former Muvico Theater location at Interstate 75 and Sheridan Road. The new City Furniture store and connecting Ashley HomeStore in Stuart is under construction at Federal Highway (US 1) and Britt Road.

Locally based Miller Program Management, a division of Miller Construction Co., is working with City Furniture’s in-house facilities staff to develop and construct the new showrooms. James Smith, a Miller principal, says, “as the owner’s representative, we have a dual focus: helping City Furniture meet its fast-tracked construction schedule on both projects while also achieving long-term objectives, such as lowering ongoing maintenance costs.”

Keith Koenig, City Furniture’s founder and president, transformed his earlier Waterbed City specialty chain into full-line City Furniture in 1994. It operates 13 showrooms throughout Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties and is among the fastest growing furniture retailers in South Florida. Having carried lines by Arcadia, WI-based Ashley Furniture Industries for several years, City now begins to clearly brand the furniture line with a roll out of Ashley Furniture HomeStore franchised units.
