Summit Launches Small Projects Division

PHOENIX-A former director of Phoenix-based RAS Builders has joined Summit Builders Construction Co. to launch Summit Builders Express, a division that will focus primarily on tenant improvement and new construction projects that cost $3 million or less.

Bill Cressy will serve as the division’s general manager, responsible for developing and managing projects in Arizona. “Summit was passing up a mountain of work because it was too small,” he says. “Now they’ll be able to benefit from the demand.”

Cressy tells GlobeSt.com that he has plans of growing the division to $20 million in the first year. His first challenge is to put the right team together. He’s hoping to have 15 people working in the division by fall 2005.

Cressy just closed a deal for Summit Builders Express to work on four retail projects for Las Vegas-based Greenstreet Properties. He says that 90% of Summit Builders Express’ work will be related to the retail sector such as small shopping centers, outlying pads and restaurants and the balance most likely industrial or build-to-suit. Cressy spent 10 years with the now-defunct RAS Builders, a national retail construction firm, as director of operations and project manager.
