DETROIT-Land is being assembled by a Livonia development firm to create a 250,000-sf shopping center here. Schafer Development LLC in Southfield and two partners, Strather & Associates Inc. and Grenadier Properties, have purchased 81 homes along Telegraph Road, north of Seven Mile, and have plans pending before the Detroit Planning Commission to build a $70-million center in the city.

So far, the Home Depot and Target are among those interested in locating stores at the proposed Seven Mile Crossing. Other possible tenants include Fifth Third Bank, Flagstar Bank and Starbucks Coffee, according to the development proposal.

Construction on the 27-acre project is slated to get started next year, with an opening set for 2006. Most of the homes will be demolished, while some will be moved to vacant lots in surrounding neighborhoods.
