ST. PAUL-The Metropolitan Council recently approved $315,000 in grants to help in the production of housing, including affordable housing.

Awards from the Livable Communities Fund for affordable housing went to the cities of Apple Valley and Vadnais Heights.

An award of $165,000 to the City of Vadnais Heights for the Talmadge Pointe Apartments will help develop new housing at County Road E and Talmadge Avenue as part of a 100-unit, $12.8 million development near retail services and schools.

A Council award of $150,000 for Lebanon Valley Place in Apple Valley will help develop new housing at 153rd Street and Founders Lane, near a large mixed-use development that’s underway in the city’s downtown.

“The Council continues to play an active role in helping communities meet the needs of local residents. This is a good investment in a critical resource and demonstrates the importance of partnerships in making any significant progress in this area,” said Council Chair Peter Bell.

The Council, since 1996, has awarded $15.5 million for affordable housing projects to 47 communities, leveraging $405 million in other public and private investment.

The Metropolitan Council is the regional planning organization for the seven-county metro area.
