BOSTON-Emmanuel College is acquiring a four-story office building at 300 Brookline Ave. from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The college had sold the building to the hospital more than 30 years ago but plans now to restore the building to its original use as a 212-room college dormitory.

Meredith Baumann, spokesperson for the Boston Redevelopment Authority tells GlobeSt.com that the college received approval from the BRA for the purchase, which is required because its institutional master plan was approved by the city agency two years ago. The building acquisition will be an amendment to the plan, a five-year vision for the campus that is something all universities and hospitals in the city have to develop.

Emmanuel sold the 48,000-sf building to Beth Israel in the 1970s in an effort to raise cash. The all-girls college at the time was struggling. The college recently went co-ed and needs additional dorm space. According to published reports, the building was sold for $14.7 million.
