Unemployment Level Holding Steady

SAN DIEGO, CA-Although San Diego County’s unemployment rate rose slightly in June, it looks like the region might be back on track, as its unemployment level remained steady in July, according to a preliminary report by the State of California Employment Development Department.

The county’s unemployment rate remained at 4.2% for July, which is the same figure reported by the EDD in June. Due to this steady rate, which is one of the lowest in the state, San Diego held onto its rank as number seven in California for lowest unemployment levels.

In addition, the county has once again reported a lower level of unemployment than the statewide average. The state’s overall unemployment rate is 6.6%, more than two percentage points higher than San Diego’s unemployment level for July.

However, EDD’s research does show that San Diego’s labor pool has begun to shrink. The county’s labor force dropped from 1,475,300 people in June to 1,473,100 people in July.
