Oakland City Center Continues to Improve

OAKLAND-In a continuing collaboration with the Oakland Museum of California, Oakland City Center has added an art space to its 1.5-million-sf center and signed on another new tenant.

“Glimpsing the Eternal,” the inaugural exhibit at 500 12th St., features a collection of pieces by Palo Alto artist Allen Hayes, who specializes in photographic images, that present “an intimate fusion of the long history of nature painting and photography and the post-modern painterly tradition,” according to Jennifer Varno, the artist’s representative.

Shorenstein Company’s Oakland City Center is a commercial and government property in downtown Oakland. With the recent completion of 555 City Center, Oakland City Center encompasses more than 1.5 million sf of office and retail space, including 18 restaurants and food outlets, more than a dozen retail shops and services, a complete athletic club and parking for 1,840 vehicles.

Oakland-based law firm King, King & Fishleder signed a 10-year lease for 3,138-sf of office space at 555 City Center and plans to relocate to the new building on September 1 from its current location at 1999 Harrison Street near Lake Merritt.

King, King & Fishleder office manager Janet King says 555 City Center offered “a much better deal for brand-new, custom designed office space.”

She adds that Oakland City Center’s amenities and the easy access to the Club One fitness facility were key selling points in the firm’s decision to relocate there.

Larry Westland of BT Commercial represented King, King & Fishleder, and John Dolby, vice president of leasing for Oakland City Center, negotiated on behalf of the Shorenstein Company. The lease rate was not available but the average asking rate for the center is $2.50 per sf, which would make the deal worth close to $1 million.
