Builders Seek City Annexation

LACEY, WA-It’ll be months before the city and Thurston County will give a thumbs up or thumbs down to an annexation proposed by MacArthur Development LLC. The request has been made to ensure city services for any future development built on the 10-acre parcel south of Martin Way and just east of River Ridge High School.

The developers have submitted a preliminary site plan that calls for 15 buildings totaling more than 66,000 square feet of office and retail space. The land is zoned for mixed-use commercial development.

City planners are in the midst of a 30-day analysis of the request to determine what effect the annexed land will have on city services, such as sewer, water and police. Fire service will remain the same regardless of annexation.

The Lacey City Council will mull over the study results once they are completed. The council can make changes, but if it OK’s the proposal, it then must go before the Thurston County Review Board. If anyone opposes the annexation, the board will hold a public meeting. If the board gives a thumbs up to the application, it returns to the City Council for a final say.
