ALBANY, NY-New York Governor George Pataki has been named Montrose resident Timothy S. Carey, who is president of the Hugh L. Carey Battery Park City Authority, a trustee for the New York Power Authority. The State Senate has confirmed the appointment, officials with the governor’s office note.

“Tim Carey has a long and distinguished record of service to the people of New York,” said Governor Pataki. “With this appointment he will bring his considerable talents to bear on one of the critical areas for New York today, the supply of reliable and affordable electric energy.”

Carey is president and chief executive officer of the Hugh L. Carey Battery Park City Authority in Manhattan. He oversees the 92-acre planned community that is home of the World Financial Center, 35 acres of parkland and 7,500 permanent residents.

Carey began his public service in 1984 when he was elected to the first of five consecutive terms on the Westchester County Board of Legislators. In 1995, he was appointed Director of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs for Governor Pataki. He was subsequently appointed chairman and executive director of the New York State Consumer Protection Board. Carey is a member of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.

He replaces Hyman M. Miller, who resigned from the board after 10 years of service, and will serve out the remainder of Miller’s term, which expires May 6, 2003. He joins C.D. Rappleyea, the chairman, and Louis R. Ciminelli of Buffalo, Gerard D. DiMarco of Rochester and Frank S. McCullough of Rye on the five-member board.
