Flash floods in southeastern France have damaged hundreds ofhomes and killed 22 people, according to bulletin by GuyCarpenter's Instrat unit that cites various media reports.

Heavy rain that started on June 15 and continued through thenext day triggered the floods, Guy Carpenter said, adding thatofficials maintain the death toll could rise.

The French national meteorological service said the floods arethe worst in the region since 1827, according to Guy Carpenter.

|

Catastrophe modeling firm Risk Management Solutions (RMS) alsoquoted the French meteorological service as stating that more rainis expected overnight tonight.

|

RMS said rainfall accumulations have reached up to 12 inches insome areas since Tuesday.

|

Under a law passed in 1982, France employs a public/privatesystem to cover flood losses.

|

RMS said it does not have any insured loss estimates at thistime.
