A winner of a RAVE Award in the back-office category,StoneRiver's PTE Financial solutions are designed to handle cash,statutory, and GAAP reporting requirements. The insurance-specificapplications offer user-defined ledgers and unlimitedconsolidations as well as budgeting, forecasting, and reportingcapabilities. The platform is compatible with a variety of desktopoperating systems, network servers, and LAN/WAN environments.

Headquartered in Oakland, Calif., StoneRiver was founded in1986. It first introduced its PTE Financial solutions to themarketplace in 1992.

Dori Luke, StoneRiver's senior vice president of financial andcompliance solutions, attributes the system's rave reviews fromcustomers to its ease of use and focus on insurance accountingneeds.

“The core system is very robust and often has been referred toas a workhorse by our clients,” she says. “But it's also a systemthat doesn't require a strong IT staff to maintain. For our smallcustomers that may be using the product in a desktop environment toclients with multiple locations using a network environment, it'snot intensive from an IT perspective.”

The company also has been effective in partnering with clientsto make sure the product fits their needs, Luke says. “We meet withour clients formally four times a year and really listen to whatthey're telling us they need in the product,” she says. “Wecontinue to enhance it more and more each year. About 60 percent ofour development effort is geared around client requests andrequirements, with the other 40 percent related to complianceneeds.”

As a result, PTE Financial addresses specific needs of insurancecompanies, Luke indicates. “We fit the entire spectrum of the needsof insurers, whether it be front office, claims, underwriting,rating, billing, or compliance solutions,” she says. “Our productmeets our clients' unique needs as they relate to reporting andhaving to track not only GAAP but statutory requirements, as well.It really simplifies the filing process for them.”
