The International Insurance Society today announced DominicD'Alessandro, G.S. Diwan, and Patrick Ryan as the 2008 winners ofthe Insurance Hall of Fame Award. They will be honored during thegala dinner at the 44th IIS Annual Seminar at the Grand FormosaRegent Taipei on July 14.

D'Alessandro was appointed president and CEO of ManulifeFinancial in 1994. In 2004, he managed the largest cross-bordertransaction in Canadian history by merging with John HancockFinancial Services, creating the second largest life insurancecompany in North America and the fourth largest in the world atthat time.

Diwan (1901-1987), was instrumental in the development of theactuarial profession in India. He taught mathematics and actuarialscience in Elphinstone College and Sydenham College. After hisretirement, he worked for the government of Bombayand as aconsultant in non-life insurance.

Ryan is the founder and executive chairman of Aon Corporation.He was also an early proponent of the power of intellectual capitalas a strategic business tool. Today Aon operates with more than 500offices in over 120 countries generating more than $7 billion inrevenue.
