Claims News Service, June 9, 3:26 p.m. EDT — According to the Associated Press, Louisiana adjusters could be in store for some changes that would affect their professional routine.
|Two House bills were approved by the Senate Insurance Committee today, the AP said, which means they now go for debate to the full Senate. HB 1384, by Karen Carter (New Orleans), and HB 1056, by Rick Farrar (Pineville), address public adjusters and claim adjusters, respectively.
|The AP said the new system would require Louisiana adjusters to be licensed and follow a standard set of regulations. A special procedure would be implemented should adjusters come from out of state in the event of a catastrophe. This legislation is in response to complaints among homeowners after Hurricane Katrina about the lack of consistent and professional service. The new system would take effect June 30, 2007.
