David Klein joined Shearman & Sterling in 1997 as part of what was supposed to be a patent litigation group. Instead, corporate lawyers began calling him to handle the IP issues on their deals. Klein, who now runs the firm's transactional IP, IT and outsourcing practice, has co-written a book with another Shearman attorney on the many different IP issues that can arise in an M&A transaction.
