SJ Berwin has embarked on a hunt for a potential merger with a US practice amid indications from partners at the UK firm that a transatlantic tie-up has rapidly become a serious strategic aim.
The firm has conceded to Legal Week that it has held informal talks with six US firms since August, with top 10 US giant Sidley Austin Brown & Wood emerging as a leading target.
