The number of claims issued at the High Court’s Queen’s Bench Division (QBD) slumped by 14% in 2002 – with Admiralty and general breach of contract cases being particularly badly affected.

Judicial statistics just published by the Department for Constitutional Affairs show the quantity of claims and originating summonses issued at the QBD falling from 21,613 in 2001 to 18,624 last year.
