Baker & McKenzie is set to be the first US-based firm to apply for a Singapore joint venture licence in a bid to strengthen its existing local association.
Sources close to the firm said it plans to hand in a formal application for a licence to the Attorney General of Singapore some time this week.

Winning a licence would allow the firm to form a single partnership with its locally associated firm, Wong & Leow. It will also be formally allowed to practise Singapore law and might be able to drop the name of Wong & Leow.
