The Bar Council has responded to angry demands for action on the news that the chances of securing a pupillage are at an all-time low. A working party has been set up, led by a senior judge, with plans to dramatically cut the number of Bar Vocational Course (BVC) students high up the list of possible options.

The group, led by Court of Appeal judge Lord Justice Neuberger, met for the first time last month (24 October) and counts 19 members of the profession among its ranks, including a number of silks and academics.
