Thank you for the front-page article in your Nov. 22, 2006 issuetitled "California/Nevada League Credit Unions Laud Cheney for"Seamless Transition'." First I must say the transition has beenseamless and I look forward to working with Bill Cheney, our newpresident/CEO. As the incoming chairman of the Nevada Credit UnionLeague, I must point out some misleading information that I am sureis unintentional yet needs to be clarified. The Nevada Credit UnionLeague continues as a separate organization from the CaliforniaCredit Union League, with both organizations maintaining a board ofdirectors. Bill Cheney is president/CEO of both leagues and theNevada Credit Union League enjoys an excellent management agreementfrom the California Credit Union League. Maintaining a separateleague offers more opportunities for credit union participation andmore focus on our particular legislative agendas, both in CarsonCity and Washington, D.C. Nevada credit unions provide ampleparticipants and lobbying efforts at the CUNA Governmental AffairsConference activities in February. Nevada League board members andother credit union executives are highly involved in politicalaction with Nevada Government Relations and PAC Committees. We alsoraise a substantial amount of money for Children's Miracle Networkand boast our own league chapters, both in Southern and NorthernNevada. Two representatives from the Nevada board of directors arecommittee members of the political advocacy advertising campaignmasterminded by the California Credit Union League. Twenty-five of30 credit unions in Nevada are league members. As a convenience, the Nevada Credit Union League annual meeting is held at the sameconference as the California Credit Union League. The most recentconference was held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas as reported in thearticle in your magazine. Our next annual meeting will be held inconjunction with the California Credit Union League annual meetingin San Diego Nov. 11-14, 2007 at a separate time and location.
