WASHINGTON — Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke officially swore Frederic Mishkin into office as a member of the Federal Reserve Board last week.
Mishkin replaces Roger W. Ferguson Jr., who left the board in April. The term runs through Jan. 31, 2014. President George W. Bush announced his intention to nominate Mishkin June 30 and the Senate confirmed him on July 26.
Prior to joining the board, Mishkin was a professor at the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University. He has taught at the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Princeton University, and Columbia University. Mishkin's research focuses on monetary policy and its impact on financial markets and the aggregate economy. He has also served as a consultant to the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, as well as to numerous central banks throughout the world.
