CAMPBELL RIVER, British Columbia – When it comes to being anentrepreneur, Coastal Community Credit Union recently proved onecan never be too young to learn about writing a business plan,conducting market research and creating a sellable product. TheCanadian credit union recently sponsored the PowerPlay YoungEntrepreneur program, now in its fourth year. Fifth and sixthgraders from local schools participate in the six-weekbusiness-training program, which culminates with a YoungEntrepreneur Show – a market fair where students set up shop andsell their products to other students, their families and thecommunity. “Coastal Community Credit Union is pleased to beinvolved with a program that offers so much to the community,” saidDean Rathwell, CCCU vice president. “Students gain important lifeskills and experience successes that will support them throughouttheir lives.” The reaction to the program has been so successfulthat CCCU said it will provide funding to bring the program to moreschools.
