DARIEN, Conn. – More people who make online card purchases use Visa than any other brand, but more cardholders who spend more than $800 per year on the Internet use American Express. Those are two of the conclusions of a recent report from JupiterResearch, an arm of Jupitermedia Corporation. The firm's study, "Credit Cards Online Understanding Consumers' Preferences" reported that while 27% of consumers surveyed preferred to use Visa online, only 7% preferred American Express. But 37% of those who prefer using American Express on the Internet are people who spend more than $800 per year in online card purchases. The survey also found that almost 30% of online buyers with credit cards prefer to tap the cards they use for online purchases simply because the information for those cards is already entered at the Web sites where the purchases are being made. Additionally, the survey found that even though more retailers are agreeing to use the online card security program, cardholders are still slow to enroll. Verified by Visa has only five million card accounts enrolled and MasterCard SecureCard has just under 12 million.
