CLEARWATER, Fla. – Card Services for Credit Unions, the association of credit unions who process their card transactions with Certegy, has recognized credit unions which had outstanding card marketing programs and efforts in 2003. The CAMEO award announcement in particular highlighted the efforts of the $20 million Human Service Employees Credit Union headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, which had fewer than 700 accounts when it started its marketing effort. "With a little over $1,000, staff knowledge and excitement, and a marketing campaign themed around baseball, Human Services ECU netted 64 new cards and $64,000 in new outstandings, taking them well past $1 million," CSCU wrote. "In their campaign, they began by pulling members with Beacon scores of 600+ and sending those members a Visa pre-approved application. They even saved postage by mailing the applications with checks and correspondence already going out to that member. From November 2002 to November 2003, Human Services ECU saw a 6.9% increase in total accounts, a 3.3% increase in total outstandings, a 14% increase in volume and a 19.4% increase in usage – all from a simple $1,000 investment."
