ALEXANDRIA, Va. – According to the Society for Human Resource Management, human resource professionals feel the need to compromise their ethics at work. While some 79% of those recently surveyed say their organization has written ethics standards, which the HR department was instrumental in crafting such policies, more than half say they feel the most stress to bend the rules to obey supervisors (49%), meet business or financial objectives (48%) or help the organization survive (40%). According to SHRM President/CEO Susan Meisinger, HR staff feel frustrated when they are both encouraged to lower their ethical standards and expected to do damage control when unethical situations blow up.
