WASHINGTON-Margaret Durbin Condrill, former minority chief counsel and staff director for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, joined CUNA's lobbying team April 7. She is serving as CUNA's new legislative affairs manager. Condrill's rsum and connections are quite extensive. She worked closely with now-Financial Services Committee Chairman Mike Oxley (R-Ohio) from 1988-94 when she served as House Energy and Commerce Committee minority chief counsel and staff director. In addition to directing the minority counsel's office, she also played a role in key bills, including Market Reform Act of 1990; Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Improvement Act of 1991; the Government Securities Act Amendments of 1993, and NAFTA. Prior to that position, she worked as associate minority counsel of an Energy and Commerce subcommittee and minority staff assistant on a House Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committee subcommittee. She also worked as a legislative attorney at the Library of Congress. As for lobbying experience, Condrill most recently consulted for the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. She represented life insurance agents before Congress and federal agencies on anti-money laundering, privacy, legal reform, optional federal chartering, and other issues. Before NAIFA, Condrill served as senior counsel and director of federal relations for the American Council of Life Insurers. She has also held other positions at the ACLI and the American Insurance Association. Condrill holds a master's degree in library science from Catholic University in Washington D.C., as well as a law degree from the university's Columbus School of Law.
