Texas Credit Union League, Dallas, has held an awards ceremony to recognize the dedication and achievements of four outstanding professionals in the credit union movement. GENCO Federal Credit Union President Billy F. Spivey has been named the "2001 Texas Credit Union Professional of the Year" and Texaco Community Federal Credit Union Chairman Glenn Johnson the "2001 Texas Credit Union Volunteer of the Year". Nominated by GENCO FCU co-worker Julie Sherman, Spivey has managed four credit unions and served as president of Texas Share Guaranty during his 45 years in the credit union movement. In addition, Spivey has mentored more than 10 of his employees who are now credit union managers. Volunteering for the past 22 years, Johnson remains very involved with the community and has even served as Mayor Pro-Tem of the Port Neches City Council. During the award ceremony TCUL took the opportunity to induct two new members to the Texas Credit Union Hall of Fame; retired St. Joseph's Credit Union President/CEO Ruby M. Weinholt, and former Red River Federal Credit Union President/CEO James Chiarizio. Weinholt, the "Grande Lady of Texas CUs" has enjoyed a CU career spanning some 34 years and continues to be very active in her community. Chiarizio has served as TCUL board chairman and has been recognized by CUNA's Founder's Club for helping to organize more than 10 credit unions.
