The League of Southern Credit Union & Affiliates has awardedeight credit unions from Alabama and Florida with 12 Dora Maxwell,Louise Herring and Alphonse Desjardins awards.

The $1.1 billion Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union in Daleville, Ala.,won a first-place Dora Maxwell award, a first-place DesjardinsYouth award and a second-place Louise Herring award.

The $1.4 billion Central Florida Educators Federal Credit Unionin Lake Mary, Fla., won a first-place Louise Herring award and asecond- place Dora Maxwell award.

The $368 million First Commerce Credit Union in Tallahassee, Fla., won afirst-place Dora Maxwell award and a first-place Louise Herringaward.

|

“Commitment to community is one of our core values,” said FirstCommerce CU President/CEO Cecilia Homison. “Through the Championsfor Charity initiative, we reach out to our community and call ontheir passion for Seminole sports programs to support charitableorganizations in their quest for funding.”

Also taking home first place honors in the Dora Maxwell categorywere the $133 million Florida State University Credit Union inTallahassee and the $40 million Tallahassee-Leon Federal CreditUnion.

The Dora Maxwell Award recognizes credit unions for socialresponsibility projects within their communities. The LouiseHerring Award is awarded for a credit union's internal programs andservices that benefit the membership. And the Desjardins Youthaward recognizes financial literacy initiatives.

Each first-place winner is sent to CUNA for national awardconsideration. The winners will be honored at the 2014 CUNA GAC inWashington, D.C.
