CUNA Mutual Group acknowledged that a rough lending atmosphere was part of the reason that only three credit unions received Excellence in Lending awards this year.

At the CUNA Lending Council's annual conference yesterday, both Oregon Community Credit Union and Erie Federal Credit Union won consumer lending awards in the more than $250 million in assets category. NorthCountry Federal Credit Union took home an award for serving persons of low and modest means.

"An extremely difficult lending environment and the Excellence in Lending Awards' demanding standards resulted in only three winners this year, but these three credit unions are truly deserving of the award," said Dan Kaiser, CUNA Mutual vice president.
