LIVONIA, Mich. — On the drawing boards since last year, twoDetroit area credit unions, the $191 million Community Choice ofLivonia and the $225 million Research Federal of Warren, are slatedto complete a merger and a computer conversion this weekend.

The merger is one of the largest in Michigan in several years,said a spokeswoman for the Michigan Credit Union League.

On its Web site, Community Choice's president/CEO Rob Bava saidfinalization of the merger would take place over a four-day periodeffective next Monday with a new Web site and productnomenclature.

The merger would permit the combined CU to expand in sevensoutheast Michigan counties under the Community Choice brand.

Research FCU, which serves a membership base of General Motorsemployees at its Warren research laboratories, was chartered in1936 and has 24,000 members in three locations in Wayne and OaklandCounties.

Community Choice was chartered one year earlier in 1935 and has40,000 members in Wayne County.
