BIDDEFORD, Me. – The $105 million St. Josephs Credit Union, oneof the first CUs in the nation to start offering completelyfee-free credit cards, will be changing its name on Feb. 1 toPeoplesChoice Credit Union. The 42-year-old credit union wasoriginally chartered to serve the parishioners of St. Joseph'sChurch in Biddeford but has grown to where it serves all of thesurrounding York County. CEO Luke Labbe explained that the growthmade the change necessary. “We're still the same great creditunion- owned by the same folks, our members- with the same friendlystaff,” said Labbe. “We've simply changed our name to help us getthe word out that we are now open to the community.” “ThePeoplesChoice Credit Union name will help us grow and offerimproved services, new products, better rates, and easier access tothe credit union,” he added. Credit union officials started thename change process nearly two years ago. More than 4,000 nameswere considered, and credit union members were invited to vote onthree finalists. Members overwhelmingly selected PeoplesChoiceCredit Union as the new name.
